“The first step in crafting the life you want is to get rid of everything you don’t.” —Joshua Becker - Prince & Associates Realty Group

We are never against a little trick to declutter, especially when we have trouble sorting and objects of all kinds pile up in our cupboards. You want to sort through your belongings, to declutter your house which is overflowing on all sides, but you don’t have time.

Find space: focus on efficient storage! What if these ideas to de-clutter your home would also allow you to free your mind and lighten your life? The more you open up, the better it feels: you want to try?

The need to declutter the living room

The living room is the main room of the house. It is particularly useful for welcoming visitors. Over time, however, it can turn into a real junk store. The cause? A lack of storage, a lack of organization and overcrowded decoration. In order to avoid this, like a decorative detox, decluttering is necessary! When cleared, this room will instill a sense of peace. In addition, it will be easier to move around without being bothered by decorative accessories, furniture, magazines and various appliances. Sometimes tidying up your living room even tidies your mind!

Parents’ room

The bedroom is a room that must be soothing, conducive to rest to promote sleep. That’s why it deserves to be decluttering first. It is therefore necessary to make clear space.

Children’s bedrooms

Like their parents, children should be provided with a bright and tidy environment in which to sleep. When they are old enough to participate, we can also invite them to participate in the clearance of their room. And sort with them what they want to keep or give. It is also an opportunity to make them aware of the gift by explaining to them that they are doing a good deed. Indeed, an object can have several lives, and be used by others. At each change of season, the clothes of growing children will be stored outside the bedroom if possible.

The kitchen

To feel good in your kitchen, the worktop and the dining table should be as uncluttered as possible. To avoid clutter and unnecessary research, a space in the cupboards will be determined for each kitchen utensil.

The dining room

To limit the display of trinkets of all kinds, you have to choose one or two major decorative objects for the decoration. Better an object chosen with care than several objects chosen in a hurry and of which one does not find much interest.

The bathroom

As with the kitchen, each object will have its place in the cupboards. This will prevent unnecessary cluttering of sink edges or shelves. For safety reasons, remember to take expired medicines to the pharmacy. And to regularly store the medicine cabinet to better find them when the time comes.

The garage and the cellar

It’s tempting to think of these rooms as a catch-all where decluttering isn’t necessary. But here too efforts will have to be made at the risk of these places becoming progressively impractical.

What to do with what you don’t need?

On average, 58 kg of unused electrical and electronic devices are kept by each inhabitant in the USA (source: Eco Systems). Once the sorting is done, there are therefore several solutions to get rid of unused objects.

Sell

It is possible to sell items by different means. On online classifieds sites, in second-hand shops, second-hand goods sales sites.

 Give

Unused items can also be used by someone else. You can give them to your family, friends, associations.

Recycle or throw away

Sometimes you can’t give or sell the item. We have no other solution than to throw it away, but be careful, not just anywhere.

The recycling center for bulky items, or the bins for those that are broken or damaged, respecting selective sorting (see the Eco-systems sites)

After so many hours of tidying up and sorting, so as not to have to start again anytime soon, we will regularly maintain our house !
