The coolest place to have a birthday party in this area is at the Dix Hills Ice Rink (http://www.skateny.com/dixhills/). This also is a great place to learn how to ice skate, or learn ice hockey, or even play hockey. There are leagues for kids, and pick-up games for adults and for kids.
The best part is, this rink is open year-round! So, it can be enjoyed from the dead of winter through the dog days of summer and on into the fall.
Children’s parties, for a minimum of 18 kids, currently cost $18 per child, which covers admission, skate rental and a choice of a hamburger, hot dog, pizza, or chicken nuggets.
Skating lessons can be experienced both during public skating sessions and at times specifically set aside for learners. There are instructors for children and adults interested in learning to ice skate, figure skate or play hockey.
The Rink also offers hockey clinics for kids and adults from time to time.
Among the special events staged at the Rink is an annual “Pink the Rink” all girls hockey tournament. Held this year in early October, was a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. The two-day event was hosted by the Lady Islanders, “an independent youth travel hockey not affiliated with any other amateur or professional organization,” according to the team’s web page (www.ladyislanders.org)
